thoughts on a beautiful morning

2 June 2009 One Comment

today is a beautiful day in nashville. granted it will likely be extremely hot by noon, but this morning, it is amazing.

even so, there is mourning this morning in over the loss of all 228 souls on board air france flt 447. the passenger list included people from 32 different countries and is the worst aviation disaster since september 11th.

up until this morning, when brazilian military jets located debris, there was no sign of the airbus a330-200. by all accounts, it simply vanished.

one day, our lives too will vanish into time.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. – james 4:14

how we spend the brief time we have alive is what determines both how we will live in eternity and the legacy we will leave to those who out-live us.

this terrible tragedy has reminded me of the above fact. as a result, i’ve been intensely looking at my life to best discern if i truly am living life to the fullest through faith. the insight has been humbling, as i believe i have a long way to go towards being the man i need to be…

i encourage you to take some time and look at your own life, the legacy you’re making for your name and whether or not your daily actions are moving you towards the person you wish to be. because, as we’ve been reminded, at some point our lives too will vanish.

Reminds me of Sanctus Real’s song, aptly entitled “Legacy,” where the lead singer is singing “I want to leave a legacy to be remembered / more than just a memory… We only have one life.”

Thanks for the encouragement! God reveals to us, each in our own way, our purposes and our calling in this life. A daily abiding and abounding in Him will give us more clarity and more revelation on the purposes He has for us, and while our physical body will vanish, we will remain eternally with Him.
